Jongerenwerkers kunnen een grotere rol spelen voor jongeren met problemen met zelfregulatie. Dat benadrukt Eva Billen, die afgelopen vrijdag promoveerde op onderzoek naar de behandeling van zelfregulatie bij mensen met een criminele achtergrond en mentale stoornissen. ‘Veel ellende voorkom je door vroeg naar mogelijkheden te zoeken die aansluiten bij hun identiteit en leefwereld.’
Zelfregulatie draait om het vermogen je gedrag, gevoelens en gedachten te beheersen. Bij adolescenten met antisociaal gedrag kan zelfregulatie verslechteren. Een mogelijke verklaring is uitsluiting van bepaalde activiteiten, zegt Eva Billen die op onderzoek naar zelfregulatie promoveerde. Foto Pixabay
